Properties of good bra fit (after surgery)
Welcome to Betty and Belle’s information pack on . . . . . Properties of good bra fit (after surgery)
At ‘betty and belle’ we have undertaken:
Bra construction and fitting courses at De Montefort University Leicester
Passed Trulife 2 day bra and prosthesis fitting course
Anita bra fitting day courses.
We all endeavor to fit the perfect bra to suit each of our customers individual needs. And after surgery the individuals needs vary so much depending type of surgery / how long since surgery / medication (does this encourage weight gain or loss) / soreness, numbness, lymphoedema etc.
Sometimes, even with the best advice, ladies still insist on unsuitable bras (and an unsuitable prosthesis size)
Having a good relationship between bra fitter and prosthesis fitter (often breast care nurse) is essential so that everyone knows each side has strived to get the best fit.
It would seem that a significant number of women are very dissatisfied with the range of bras available in ‘their’ size and fit of bras in general. Equally, as consumers - we are baffled by different dress sizes, depending on your choice of store….. let alone different bra sizes for different brands……!!
The industry has become aware of the dissatisfaction and has increased the number of styles and sizes availableto the consumer, but there is still a general lack of understanding so far as bra fitting is concerned…….
General Misconception (a)
Many customers think that ‘any’ sales assistant who works in a lingerie shop is ‘qualified’ to fit bras In fact, you are solely relying on the knowledge and experience of the bra fitter, as there are no technical qualifications available to bra fitters. This is especially important for post surgery fitting
THEY DO NOT !
General Misconception (b)
Most customers think that reputable, long established international bra manufacturering companies use a common sizing system, some standard measurements for bamd and cup patterns, some standard grading method or some standard wire sizes. There are no national or international standards
Please note: These are our personal opinions which will hopefully help with your bra fitting and take into consideration the specific needs of post surgery ladies.

THE first annual Trafford Business Awards went off with a bang on Wednesday night, as the cream of the borough’s business community descended on Lancashire Cricket Club.”The Trafford area is a great place, the area’s absolutely booming, and it’s a great place for me and great place to do business
Darren Carr, Business Person of the YearThe event - jointly hosted by Messenger and Trafford Borough Council - was compered by former BBC TV reporter Eamonn O’Neil, and sponsored by Trafford College, Harold Sharp Chartered Accountants, developer Nikal, Veolia Enviromental Services, and Trafford Council.
Up for grabs were six awards: Start Up Business of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Training and Development, Environmental Business of the Year, Business Person of the Year, and Business of the Year.
From dozens of entries, the judging panel - consisting of Messenger editor, Lynn Hughes; chief exeutive at Trafford Council, David McNulty; Business Link’s northwest relationship manager, Steve Connolly, and Chris Fletcher, deputy chief exeutive and policy director at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce - had earlier shortlisted the categories down to just 15 of Trafford’s finest.
START Up Business of The Year proved a difficult choice for the judges, so much so the runner-up place and the overall winner were jointly awarded.
Runner-up places went to Altrincham’s Betty and Belle, who specialise in lingerie for women who’ve undergone mastectomy surgery, and Sale’s Clippy’s Apples, which makes quality preserves.

insure pink - background and information
Fiona Macrae was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2005. Following initial treatment she decided to take a holiday with her family to recuperate. However, when she tried to obtain travel insurance she encountered many problems. Insurance companies asked distressing, personal and intrusive questions in an insensitive manner, and all the policies they offered were loaded by at least £150.
Following more research into insurance for breast cancer sufferers that revealed it is virtually impossible to obtain without an extortionate premium, even when in remission, Fiona Macrae was adamant she wanted to do something to change the status quo. She initially thought that finding a backer for this new approach to insurance would be difficult, but thanks to the belief Neil Utley, CEO of Equity Insurance Group, had in Fiona and the changes she was trying to encourage in the travel insurance world, she found the perfect insurance company to drive her vision forward.

surepink’s travel policy puts an end to sky-high premiums for people with breast cancer and has been developed to allow the 41,000 UK women diagnosed every year to arrange affordable cover. Thousands of breast cancer sufferers are unable to travel abroad because the cost of cover is often more than the holiday itself.
insurepink’s travel insurance is designed as an easily accessible policy that takes personal circumstances into account rather than categorising in wide groups. It treats people with sensitivity, something many with breast cancer have never experienced when dealing with insurance companies.
For every travel insurance policy sold, insurepink donates £1 to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.Following the successful launch of its travel insurance, with many policyholders asking if insurepink offered any other policies, the decision was taken to introduce motor and home insurance in a way that would help change insurance for the better. For every motor or home insurance policy purchased, insurepink donates £10 to the Pink Ribbon Foundation – a first in the insurance market.
